The Standard 20ft container is one of the most widely used containers in the world to transport ocean freight goods. As a dry storage container, it is completely closed and hermetically sealed. It is not equipped with cooling nor ventilation systems like the refrigerated and ventilated containers.

On its floor base, the 20 ft standard shipping container can hold up to 10 standard pallets or 11 euro pallets. Because the price per square foot is more expensive than a Standard 40ft container, they are generally ideal to transport high-density weighty cargo rather than voluminous cargo.

• It exists a wide range of standard 20ft standard containers:
• Single Door Opening Container: With one set of double doors at one end of the container
• Double Door Opening Container: With one set of double doors at one end of the container
• Side Door Opening Container: with a set of double doors at one or each end + a set of doors over the entire length of one side of the container.
• Full Side Access Container: with sets of double doors on all four sides and ends of the container

A specific 20ft standard dry cargo container also exists, named 20ft Pallet Wide Container, that is 4 inches (10.2 cm) wider. Thanks to its extra length, it allows the stowage off more pallets by eliminating the unused space that can occur in a standard width container.
