A consignee is the person or company who will receive and take ownership of goods when they arrive at their destination.
Think of the consignee as the final recipient—the one who gets the shipment and becomes the new owner once the cargo is released.
Example 1: If a clothing store in Chile orders shirts from a supplier in Spain, the store in Chile is the consignee because they will receive and own the goods when they arrive.
Example 2: When a manufacturer in Mexico buys machinery from the United States, the Mexican manufacturer is the consignee—they receive the machinery and take ownership once it’s delivered.
